In the late 1920s the pioneering firm of Kandem (Körting & Mathiesen AG, Leipzig) led the field in creating innovative lighting. Widespread in both private & public buildings, Kandem lighting fixtures also shaped nocturnal city spaces throughout Europe. Drawing on intensive research & development, Kandem set the standards for modern lighting.

As a school of art & design, the Bauhaus in Dessau was famous far beyond the borders of Germany. From the productive Bauhaus collaboration with Kandem emerged numerous types of lighting fixtures which were functional in design, form & construction. This pioneering achievement broke new ground in product development & design at a time when unlike the present collaboration between designers and industrialists was the exception.

The results of their joint efforts were shown at important trade fairs such as the 1929 Werkbund exhibition 'Wohnung und Bauen' ('House & Building') in Breslau & the 'Exposition des Artistes D,corateurs Franaise' in Paris.

The Kandem & BAUHAUS relationship introduced great designers like Hin Bredendieck & most famously Marianne Brandt whos designed many classic items we take for granted & use everyday including the famous Kandem table lamp.

Many of the items we have for sale are all from what we refer to as " Real Life ", they were all made for use & purpose. There will always be signs of use & aging which we think gives each item its individuality & personal charm. We clean & repair but we always try our best to keep everything in its original state. We will always give you a good idea of condition & especially highlight anything that we consider may have aesthetic or structural concern.

You are more than welcome to purchase this item in person & pick it up from our London based workshop.

International buyers will need to check with their local authorities to see if any customs & import taxes are applicable. Any additional customs & tax payments are the responsibility of the buyer.
