Circa 1940s hand painted factory sign.
Hand painted on a steel sheet this sign was on the goods lift, warning users of the lift not to exceed stated weight.
In weight measurement, CWT stands for hundredweight. It's a unit of weight, and the exact value depends on location: in the US & Canada a hundredweight is 100 pounds ( 45.3592 Kg ), while in the UK 112 pounds ( 50.8023 Kg ).
We salvaged this sign from the famous Luton based milliners ' Barford Brothers " who as a family have been based in Luton as milliners & milliners suppliers for nearly 400 years.
Condition is really very good for its age, ( please see pictures ).
