Heinz F.W. Stahl is a graduate designer. After an apprenticeship & working as a toolmaker, he studied “industrial design” at the Werkkunstschule in Hannover. This was followed by design work in Switzerland & 4 years of design in the broadcast and TV industry. From 1968 to 1988 Heinz Stahl worked as a designer for Hillebrand-Leuchten in Arnsberg. He was involved in designing “modern” lighting. In that period most of the more renowned Hillebrand lamp designs were his designs. Since 1988, Stahl is an independent designer with a focus on lighting, furniture, glass, toys & art objects. From 1988 to 2012 he was a freelance designer for Bankamp Leuchten.
Egon Hillebrand founded Hillebrand Leuchtenfabrik,in Neheim-Hüsten Germany on May 15, 1881. Originally a plumbing & master fitter he started the manufacturing of nickel silver lids for beer pitchers, household appliances, kerosene lamps & storm & carriage lanterns. With the arrival of his son Franz into the business, their operations changed at the turn of the century to the manufacturing of electrical lighting fittings and office furniture. Around 1955, they started producing modern designed quality lighting which they are still famous for today. Unfortunately the company filed for bankruptcy in 1995.
