1950s jewellers work stools from Birmingham's jewellery quarter. These stools were salvaged from renowned Birmingham silversmiths ' Broadways Silversmiths ' who are known for their silver work for such names as ' Fortnum & Mason '.
These stools are scratch made on site from elm. As in most factory's the factory handy man / caretaker would just make stools or work benches as needed from resources that he had to hand. Usually made simply but to a high standard & made to last.
Photo above shows actual stools being used by the silversmiths in the Broadway workshop
