Kumu Divination Mask From The D.R. Congo

Kumu mask hand crafted divination mask from the Democratic Republic Of Congo. Believed to be from around 1900-1940s.

Kumu masks are very important in Kumu culture. Used by the Nkunda society of sorcerers who use them to summon the ancient ancestors. The use of hallucinogens was a part of these ceremonies & while in a state of trance they would receive revelations. These ceremony's served the Kumu as an important act of divination.

Totally hand made in good condition showing signs of good honest aging.
